Trio Voronezh

These three young Russians opted to sidestep the concert hall and take their classical training to the streets, free to interpret the masters in their own inimitable style. It's been more than seven years since Helmuth Rilling first heard Trio Voronezh playing Bach in a German subway. Since then, the ensemble's dazzling, from-memory performances of classical music, Russian folk melodies, Gypsy airs, tangos--even ragtime and Gershwin tunes--have brought audiences to their feet, clamoring for more. This program will feature original arrangements of classical works and traditional folk music. Vladimir Velochin, domra; Sergei Teleshev, bajan; Valerie Petruchin, double-bass balalaika.

"The young Russians displayed such fiery virtuosity and temperament that the audience again and again applauded and yelled 'Bravo!'" --Sudkurier (Germany)
