The Sally Ride Science Club and HP will present the Sally Ride Science Festival at Stanford University's Lomita Mall on Sunday, October 5, 2003. The Festival is for middle school girls, with parents and teachers also welcome to attend. The event will feature a keynote by Sally Ride, Discovery Workshops given by women professionals from veterinarians to rocket scientists, and a street fair with booths, exhibits, food, music and a free drawing. There is also an adult track of workshops for parents and teachers on topics such as hands-on science and gender equity.
The Festival begins at 11:30 a.m., with the street fair and registration, and concludes at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $18 in advance ($25 at the door), and includes all festival events, lunch, snack and materials. Girls attending the festival can also join the Sally Ride Science Club for a sponsored rate of $5 for the first year. To help all residents participate equally, including low-income area students, The Hewlett-Packard Company is sponsoring the attendance and membership in the Science Club for up to 200 area girls with financial need.
