What Matters to Me and Why: Nanci Howe

Nanci Howe, Director of Stanford's Office of Student Activities, will talk on "what matters to me and why." What Matters to Me and Why is a discussion and lecture series that encourages reflection within the Stanford community on matters of personal values, beliefs, and motivations in order to better understand the lives and inspirations of those who shape the University. All students, faculty and staff are welcome!

NANCI HOWE, Assistant Dean and Director of Student Activities, has been at Stanford University since 1981. She began her Stanford tenure supervising Tresidder Union food services, ticketing, recreation, marketing and meeting services. For the last fifteen years she has worked exclusively with students including 600 student organizations, fraternities and sororities and ASSU.

Never able to leave the college environment, she has spent her entire career working in student affairs. Prior to Stanford she worked at Vassar College and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She attended a variety of other institutions of higher education including the University of Delaware, Bowling Green State University, Columbia Teacher's College and Claremont Graduate School. She has degrees in Art Education and College Student Personnel and has done doctoral work in Higher Education.

Originally from New Jersey, she has become a confirmed Californian and lives close to campus so that she can attend many women's basketball games. She has a daughter who is a Stanford sophomore.
