DNA Chips: A Breakthrough for Cancer Diagnosis

Stanford scientists are pioneers in the design and analysis of DNA microarrays, also called DNA chips. On a small glass slide, the genes that are expressed in a tumor can be compared with all the genes that are expressed in normal cells. This powerful technique is allowing scientists to better define cancer types and to obtain better information regarding patient prognosis.
