Sponsored by the Department of Drama and the Stanford Theater Laboratory:
Sergei Tcherkasski presents a lecture entitled "System and Method," about the commonalities and differences between the American Method actor training and the Stanislavsky System.
Professor Tcherkasski is Vice-Rector of the St. Petersburg Theater Institute, one of the finest acting academies of Russia. A director, theater historian, and teacher of directing and acting, Mr. Tcherkasski's particular area of specialty is the last phase of Stanislavsky's investigations into the art of the actor: Action Analysis and the Method of Physical Actions. Little known in the US, these techniques are markedly different from the Stanislavsky we associate with American Method training.
