Sponsored by the Department of Drama and the Stanford Theater Laboratory:
Galina Kondrashova, teacher of stage movement at the St. Petersburg Theater Institute, gives a special intensive introductory workshop on her methods.
Galina Kondrashova began her career as a professional dancer. After entering the theater, in her teaching she specialized in methods of stage movement. Her approach integrates the two major Russian traditions of stage movement technique from the latter half of the twentieth century: the work of Ivan Kokh (hose methods emphasized precision of form, rhythm-tempo, and ensemble work) and Arkady Nemirovsky (emphasizing the integration of emotin and form, and the physical-imagistic work of the actor within the metaphorical image system of a production).
