This conference entitled ?After the Past? considers where things stand with the past--how much it really is about the present, what its uses are, is it being forgotten, can it be popularized, etc. The subpanels will be called Visualizing, Archiving, Looting, Repossessing.
The keynote addresses take place at 9:30 a.m. each morning and feature Dipesh Chakrabarty (Friday) and Lynn Hunt (Saturday).
Other conference speakers include Iain McCalman, Peggy Phelan, Thelma Foote, Tim Lenoir, Meaghan Morris, Brian Fagan, John Frow, and Terry Castle.
This is the annual meeting of the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes. This will be the first time that the conference will be held at Stanford University. All talks are free and open to the public.
