"Staging Postcolonial Hybridities: The First Nations 'Other' in Canadian and Australasian Drama," a talk by visiting scholar Marc Maufort

In this talk, sponsored by the Stanford Departments of Drama and Comparative Literature, Professor Marc Maufort will discuss and compare plays by Drew Hayden Taylor (Canada), Jimmy Chi (Australia) and Briar Grace-Smith (New Zealand).

Professor Maufort teaches at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, in Belgium, where he specializes in the anglophone literature and drama of Canada, England, and the United States. His research interests include dramaturgical study, reevaluating the complex relationship that exists between text, culture, and representation, concentrating on such themes as: the interaction between theatrical practice and textual analysis; theater and multiculturalism; marginalized theatrical practice, postcolonial theater, and dramatic theory. He also studies comparative literature, especially within one linguistic or cultural group, such as a multicultural or postcolonial society; his research project is involved with revaluing the relation between the margin and the center of such multicultural groups. He was co-editor of Siting the Other: Revision of Marginality in Australian and English-Canadian Drama, published in 2001.
