"When History Goes Hollywood"

How do Hollywood filmmakers reconcile the dramatic with the historic in movies such as "Seabiscuit?" Come hear a panel discussion featuring Gary Ross, writer/director of the movie "Seabiscuit;" Kristine Samuelson, director of Stanford's documentary film program and Richard White, Stanford history professor specializing in the American West. From "Birth of a Nation" to "The Godfather" to this summer's "Seabiscuit," filmmakers have drawn on history for some of the most enduring movies of our time. What happens when the imperatives of history and entertainment clash, and how do filmmakers and historians regard that conflict?
