IT Development Division of KDDI Corporation in Japan will give a Media X

Colloquium Talk on Tuesday November 18, 4:00 - 5:00 PM, in Cordura Hall 100. The

talk will follow on right after the weekly CSLI/EPGY tea, which takes place in

the Cordura Hall entrance foyer from 3:00 - 4:00 PM every week during term time;

anyone who wants to attend the talk is welcome to take part in the tea as well.

Media X Colloquium Talks constitute an irregular series aimed to bring to campus

leading figures in the world of interactive technologies, from industry,

research labs, and academia.

Dr. Murakami's talk is titled For Innovation toward a Ubiquitous Solution

Company - Technological Issues in KDDI.

The telecommunication world is now drastically changing to ubiquitous access and

networking. KDDI aims to become a ubiquitous solution company by setting "mobile

networking technology" as a core competence of the business and responding to

the customer's further reliance and satisfaction.

The presentation will begin with an overview of the telecommunications business

environment in Japan and current KDDI approach, followed by an examination of

key technological issues;

  1. to improve KDDI's existing services,

  2. to develop new killer applications for KDDI's network platform, and

  3. to create new business markets.

I will specify requirements for future telecommunications services and outline

KDDI's proposed technical solutions.
