AASA is proud to announce Listen to the Silence 2003, our 8th Annual Asian Pacific Islander Issues Conference. Each year, Listen to the Silence brings together activists, academics, and students to participate in workshops on pressing community issues. The theme for Listen to the Silence 2003 is "One Struggle, Many Fronts," and noted community activist and educator, Professor Glenn Omatsu of the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), will give the keynote address. Since its inception in 1995, Listen to the Silence has steadily grown in size and reputation, with past speakers such as Yuri Kochiyama, Warren Mar, and Helen Zia. The conference also includes a community concert featuring API artists and musicians, such as Vietnamese American spoken word artist, Bao Phi, and hip hop and the South Asian American hip-hop group, Karmacy.
Listen to the Silence 2003 is a free conference for early registrants and open to the public. We understand that a number of participants will be traveling long distances to attend the conference, and we would like to help in any way we can. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding overnight accommodations or travel arrangements. On this site you can register for the conference, find schedules, maps, and workshop descriptions, or download promotional flyers to inform your friends and peers about the conference.
