Emerson String Quartet

Embracing the enigmatic quality of a body of music often infused with disquiet, rage, and the composer's preoccupation with his own mortality, the Emerson String Quartet offers a dramatic program of the composer's final three quartets. Written at the end of Shostakovich's life, the three quartets embody the composer's shift from larger scale symphonic works to the more intimate and internal idiom of chamber music.
