Established in 1998 at Stanford by film critic and educator Jasmina Bojic in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF) screens documentaries by international filmmakers dealing with topics such as human rights, environmental conservation, women's and children's issues, famine, racism, universal education, war, and peace. By bringing together filmmakers, the academic community, and the general public, UNAFF offers a unique opportunity for creative exchange and education among groups and individuals often separated by geography, ethnicity, and economic constraints.
The UNAFF program includes hosting an annual international film festival at Stanford University during October 19-26, with screenings in Palo Alto on October 19, San Francisco on October 20, East Palo Alto on October 21, and a Traveling Film Festival in various locations in the US and abroad.
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UNAFF has chosen the theme "Blue Planet, Green Planet" and celebrates films reflecting all the usual problems that we encounter living on our Blue Planet, but also films that remind us that we have to worry about the planet's green aspects as well.
