Art History Lecture: James Meyer

Entropy as Monument

Robert Smithson - erstwhile Minimalist, land artist, prophet of entropy - has emerged as a central reference in contemporary art and art history since the nineties. Focusing on projects by Renee Green, Sam Durant, Mike Nelson, and Jeremy Millar, this talk examines the monumentalization of Smithson within the broader context of the current sixties revivalism, or "sixties return."

James Meyer (Ph.D., Johns Hopkins University, 1995) is the Winship Distinguished Associate Professor of Art History at Emory University.

The Art History Lecture Series is sponsored by the Cantor Arts Center Membership Board.
