The Numbers Behind NUMB3RS: Solving Crimes with Mathematics

Dr. Keith Devlin, NPR's “the Math Guy”, Consulting Professor in Mathematics, a co-founder of the Stanford Media X Research Network and Senior Researcher at CSLI will be speaking on “The Numbers Behind NUMB3RS:Solving Crimes with Mathematics” on November 11 at 11 a.m. in Cypress Rooms A and B at Tresidder Union. For those who have seen the television series NUMB3RS this talk will be especially interesting. The talk will focus on real-life mathematical techniques used by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to catch and convict criminals.

Dr. Devlin and co-author Gary Lorden used the popular television show, NUMB3RS as a springboard for their book of the same name. The speaker has written close to 30 books and 80+ published research articles.

Copies of the NUMB3RS book as well as his new book, “The Unfinished Game” will be available for purchase after the presentation.
