University Public Worship

Christian ecumenical service with Communion, featuring guest preacher, the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Lyman. Sermon: "Surviving the Spiritual Wilderness." Music featuring University Organist, Dr. Robert Huw Morgan, and the Memorial Church Choir, under the direction of Gregory Wait.

Rev. Lyman is the Samuel Garrett Professor of Church History emerita at The Church Divinity School of the Pacific at Berkeley and a member of the Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology Group at the University of California, Berkeley. As a scholar of ancient Christianity, focused especially on the invention of “heresy” and descriptions of religious intolerance, she has written several books and numerous articles. She has preached at Memorial Church on a number of occasions and has been a frequent Visiting Professor at Stanford, most recently during Spring Quarter 2008. Her husband, Andrew Bridges, is a Stanford alumnus (Classics, 1976).
