Philosopher Peter Singer in Conversation about his new book, The Life You Can Save: Acting Now to End World Poverty
Many are familiar with Professor Singer's books Animal Liberation and The Ethics of What We Eat and his writings about how increased charitable giving can remedy global poverty.
Professor Singer has a new book about global poverty that will be released on March 3 and will be at Stanford to discuss his new book. We're thrilled that he's agreed to come and hope that you can join us for this event.
Peter Singer wrote two articles in the New York Times Magazine that attracted a great deal of attention: The Singer Solution to World Poverty and What Should a Billionaire Give Away (and what should you?) In these articles, Singer argues that people in developed countries should donate far more money to charity than they currently do. In his new book, Singer further develops these arguments in calling upon Americans and other citizens of wealthy countries to make a substantial increase in their charitable giving to aid the globally impoverished.
Professor Singer is the Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University and the Laureate Professor at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne.
