Catholic Community Centennial Speaker's Series

RENE GIRARD: "VIOLENCE AND RELIGION: CAUSE OR EFFECT?"

Rene Girard, now a retired member of the Stanford faculty, is one of

the most distinguished and renowned philosophers and critics in the

world. His writings bring together psychology, theology,

anthropology, literature and the Bible to examine the sources of

human violence and its moral and religious implications and

consequences. His many books include "Violence and the Sacred,"

"Things Hidden From the Foundations of the World," and "I See Satan

Fall Like Lightning";"The Girard Reader" offers an introduction to

his thought.

His lecture for the Centennial Series will offer his most recent

reflections on the topic that is central to all our lives and seems

especially urgent at this moment in our history. Mark this important

event on your calendars and come to the lecture on Tuesday evening.
