His Eminence Oscar Andres Cardinal Rodriguez Maradiaga, S.D.B., Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Cardinal Rodrguez will address "The Solidarity of Globalization in the Church" as part of the Catholic Community's Centennial Speaker's Series.
The cardinal is one of the youngest members of the College of Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church and is frequently spoken of as a "papabile" - a possible successor to Pope John Paul II. Cardinal Rodriquez is known as a champion of the poor and a constant opponent of dealers of drugs and other crime lords in his country. He has become a figure of some consequence through the many programs he has begun to turn young people away from a culture dependent on drugs and crime and toward a society focused on personal growth and community service. He is an outspoken leader in Central and South America for the rights of the poor and serves on the Vatican Commission on Peace and Justice and the Congregation for the Clergy and the Congregation for the Laity.
