E. Patrick Johnson received his BA and MA degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his PhD from Louisiana State University. His research interests include black gay vernacular traditions, performance ethnography, queer performance, and sexuality studies. In addition to publications in Text and Performance Quarterly, Obsidian II, Callaloo, and Journal of Homosexuality, Johnson's book, Appropriating Blackness: Performance and the Politics of Authenticity and co-edited volume (with Mae G. Henderson), Black Queer Theory: A Critical Introduction , will be published by Duke University Press.
