Dr. Keith Trigwell, "The Tutorial System at the University of Oxford"

Dr. Keith Trigwell, Principal Research Fellow at the recently established Institute for the Advancement of University Learning at the University of Oxford. Author of Understanding Learning and Teaching: The Experience in Higher Education. Talk "The Tutorial System at the University of Oxford." This session describes the results of both quantitative and qualitative research into the experience students have of the tutorial system at the University of Oxford. The collegiate structure at Oxford facilitates close and personal tutor-student contact, even for first year students. But there is variation in how students perceive the role of tutorials; the consequences of this variation for student learning are discussed. Dr. Trigwell will also draw on a recent study of over 2,300 Oxford undergraduates regarding their perceptions of their learning environment.
