Early Bird Jazz: Crosspulse with Keith Terry

Once you've experienced a performance by Keith Terry and his Crosspulse ensembles, you'll start to hear music where you never knew it existed. In this presentation designed specifically for young listeners, any object can become an instrument, any motion can become a dance, and any sound can be woven into a joyous tapestry of rhythm and imagination. Difficult to categorize and irresistible to kids and adults alike, Keith Terry & Crosspulse's unique performances combine synchronized movement, body percussion, singing, chanting, and drumming into a dazzlingly creative and entertaining celebration of the music that lives inside us all. A 2008 Guggenheim Fellow, Terry also produced the successful first annual Body Music Festival, held in the Bay Area last year. The Crosspulse Rhythm Duo (with dancer/multi-instrumentalist Evie Ladin) draws on a variety of musical traditions - from jazz to clog dancing - and creates an unpredictable, energetic rhythmic fantasia using anything and everything at hand. The master drummers of the Crosspulse Percussion Quintet bring together rhythmic styles and sounds from all over the world, taking audiences on a sonic journey. Both groups will be featured in this special performance, which is sure to delight listeners of all ages. Kids under 5, 10 am; Kids 6 & over, 11:00 am
