The Outdoor Science Series is sponsored by the Stanford Office for Science Outreach=2C the Cantor Arts Center=2C and Stanford Continuing Studies=2E=0D=0A=0D=0AOutdoor Science Talk 3=3A State of Energy Address=3FAre We on the Right Track=3F=0D=0A=0D=0AAt the time of this talk=2C it will have been six months since a new administration came into power in Washington=2E Throughout the election campaign=2C President Obama strongly emphasized the need for change in energy and environmental policies=2E During the Senate hearings on Steven Chu=3Fs nomination as Secretary of Energy=2C some of the new policy ideas became clearer=2E Chu talked about a strong emphasis on energy efficiency=2C incentives for development of solar and wind energy=2C even construction of new nuclear power plants=2E Has the new administration walked the talk=3F What policies have been changed or initiated and how effective are they likely to be=3F What new programs can we expect in the next few years=3F Come join us for a =3Fstate of energy and the environment address=3F and a critical analysis of the new plans and policies coming out of Washington=2E=0D=0A=0D=0AMARGOT G=2E GERRITSEN=0D=0AAssistant Professor of Energy Resources Engineering and=2C by courtesy=2C of Civil and Environmental Engineering=0D=0AMargot Gerritsen specializes in enhanced oil recovery processes and tidal energy systems=2E She has a wide range of other research interests that include sail design=2C flight dynamics=2C and computational mathematics=2E She also runs a podcast site on energy issues at www=2Esmartenergyshow=2Ecom=2E She received a PhD in scientific computing and computational mathematics from Stanford=2E Earlier=2C she taught at the University of Auckland=2C New Zealand=2E
