Stanford vs. McSweeney's

Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the explosive phenomenon of Timothy Sweeney's Quarterly Concern (aka McSweeney's), the literary journal founded by Dave Eggers that for years has been attracting many of the best young writers today, including Rick Moody, Jonathan Lethem, Michael Chabon, Aimee Bender, and David Sedaris. McSweeney's combines long-form prose, experimental fiction, illustration, and humor in a unique mix that has pushed it to the forefront of the American literary scene. It has also spawned a mini-literary and publishing empire, including new publications like The Believer, a publishing arm, and even an online McSweeney's store.

The evening will begin with a screening of the documentary film The Making of McSweeney's 11 (15 minutes) followed by a panel discussion featuring:

Bob Bersh, McSweeney's Publisher

Eli Horowitz, McSweeney's Managing Editor

Andrew Leland, Believer Magazine Managing Editor

David Kneebone, Director of The Making of McSweeney's 11

Heidi Meredith, McSweeney's Circulation Manager

The discussion will be moderated by Stephen Elliott, Stanford's Marsh McCall Lecturer, and contributing writer to McSweeney's.
