The Life of Myth: Ovid's Arachne

In this program, Diane Middlebrook will join Continuing Studies and the Stanford Alumni Association to lead an exploration and discussion of the mythological story of Arachne, the storytelling weaver who was transformed into a spider by the jealous goddess Minerva, a tale that was perhaps told best by the Roman poet Ovid in his Metamorphoses.

This mythic tale is only one fascinating example of how elements of myth can continually reclaim the attention of cultures across time. The morning's presentation will include lecture, slides, and ample time for discussion.
