The Tomboys were established to showcase solo and small ensemble singers and pianists. After the birth of 9 a capella groups on the Stanford campus, the Tomboys decided to give Stanford something completely different: a piano-vocal collaborative group!
Our program is filled with humorous and light-hearted songs that parody and satirize subjects ranging from men to campus culture. Our comedy skits will delight, as will cameos of Sweeney Todd and Mozart's take on Happy Birthday.
The Tomboys select songs from musicals, operas, and the art song repertoire for our performances. This is a rare opportunity to hear a scandalously risque song by Barbara Streisand (Nobody Makes a Pass at Me) in the same program as another scandalously risque song written by Beethoven (Der Kuss)! Other composers include Victor Herbert, satirist Tom Lehrer, Maurice Ravel, and Alberto Ginastera.
