Dr. Evan Hughes--Former Manager, EPRI Biomass R&D Program-- will address the following:
Biomass is a renewable energy source--solar energy captured by photosynthesis in living plants--that can prevent fossil carbon emissions by substituting for fossil fuels in power generation, transportation, and other fossil-fuel-using applications. The growth of living plants in forests, fields, and water can capture ("fix") carbon from the atmosphere, making biomass a sink for carbon already in the atmosphere--a unique feature of biomass versus the wind and solar energy sources that are thought of first when "renewable energy" is mentioned.
In this seminar, the advantages and benefits of biomass energy technologies will be discussed, as well as the challenges and opportunities for research and development that can make it possible to achieve the benefits and overcome the substantial technical and economic barriers to biomass as a major energy resource.
All are welcome to meet Dr. Hughes following the seminar in the GCEP Conference Room, 555J(upstairs on 2nd Floor)
***Refreshments will be served.***
