Ethnicity, Education and the Human Rights of Foreign Residents in Japan

Speaker: Hiroshi Tanaka, Professor, Ryukoku University, Japan

Hiroshi Tanaka is actively involved the human rights movement of Koreans and other foreign residents in Japan. He led a successful campaign against the fingerprinting law and is currently tackling the problems of compensation for war victims and discrimination by the government against Korean ethnic schools.

Welcoming remarks will be made by Harumi Befu Emeritus Professor at Stanford. Professor Befu is an anthropologist whose research focuses on cultural nationalism and Japan?s overseas and domestic globalization.
