FACES 2004 Conference: China's Rise in the World Economy

FACES 2004 Conference: "On Common Ground"

April 11-17, 2004

Brought to you by FACES, Forum for American/Chinese Exchange at Stanford

In addition to exploring definitions of China's role in globalization and trade relationship with the U.S., this panel will assess the impacts of China's entry into the WTO and its emerging economic dominance in the East Asian region. What new trade policies have been or will be drawn up by each country to accommodate and/or effect changes brought about by China's WTO entry? What changes to U.S. economic and business policy can be expected in light of China's becoming Asia's premier economic power? How are China's and America's trade policies towards each other influenced by their policies towards other global economic powers such as the ASEAN bloc and the EU?

John Holden (moderator), President, National Committee on U.S.-China Relations

Nicholas Hope, Deputy Director, Center for Research on Economic Development and Policy Reform, Stanford University

Robert Kapp, President, U.S.-China Business Council
