FACES 2004 Conference Panel--Turnaround in U.S.-China Relations: Why and Will It Last?

FACES 2004 Conference: "On Common Ground" April 11-17, 2004

Panel: Turnaround in U.S.-China Relations: Why and Will It Last?

Scholars have observed a significant turnaround in U.S.-China relations since September 11th. This panel will respond to the following questions: How has the War on Terror brought American and Chinese interests in line? How have North Korea negotiations provided ground for active collaboration between the United States and China? How has China?s new generation of leaders changed the course of Chinese foreign policy with its policy of ?peaceful ascendancy,? and what implications does this have for the United States?? After the assessing the foundations of the improved relationship, the panel will offer insights into challenges to and the durability of this improvement.
