WHO WE ARE
KZSU is a non-commercial, volunteer-staffed college radio staiton
broadcasting at 90.1 FM and online at kzsulive.stanford.edu. As a college
radio station, we offer an alternative to mainstream commercial radio.
MUSIC
We currently have about 100,000 records and CDs in our music
library. KZSU staff members listen to new music and identify great,
undiscovered bands. KZSU DJs can play just about whatever they want
(within reason, of course) and are often trendsetters, playing new bands
long before they hit it big. KZSU also hosts local bands on a live music
show, Wednesday Night Live, which has featured bands like Green Day and
the Donnas long before they made it big.
We also throw an annual hip-hop concert, an annual dance/electronic party
(last year's party featured SF DJ Josh Gabriel of the Gabriel and Dresden
production team), and put on shows at the Stanford Coffee House (featuring
acts including the Microphones, the Agenda, the Jim Yoshii Pile-up, Little
Wings, and Bosco & Jorge).
NEWS
The News Department produces a twenty minute daily news update and a
weekly news magazine combining local and global news, campus feature
stories, and commentary. News staffers gain hands-on experience
researching, writing, and reporting the news. KZSU's direct connection
with the campus community gives us access to the world's expert in a wide
variety of fields. We serve as a source for deeper coverage of campus,
national, and world events.
SPORTS
What better way to get close to the action than by broadcasting Stanford
sports on the radio? KZSU broadcasts 8 Stanford sports: football, men's
and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's soccer, and
women's volleyball. Stanford fans and alumni from the world over tune
into our broadcasts. We also have a weekly sports talk show, the
SportsZoo, open to anyone interesting in coming down and joining the
fray. Alumni of the KZSU Sports Department include ESPN Dream Job
contestant Aaron Levine, San Francisco Giants broadcaster Dave Flemming,
and professional baseball announcers Chad Goldberg and Toby Hyde.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
KZSU Radio is in constant need of clever hands and creative minds (and
vice-versa). In addition to DJ, news, and sports positions, we have
volunteer opportunities available for engineering, public affairs,
promotions, live music, and graphic design. No experience necessary.
