Considering the mentors he's had and the musical brilliance he displays, trumpeter Brian Lynch's association with Stanford Jazz as both performer and teacher in residence is no surprise. Lynch's career includes extended tenures with the Horace Silver Quintet, Eddie Palmieri's Afro-Caribbean Jazz Octet and the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra. How's that for versatile? Perhaps the ultimate was Lynch's two years in that ultimate of all jazz schools, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, as trumpeter and composer/arranger. An acclaimed performer with six CDs as a leader to his credit, Lynch is a stirring, imaginative trumpeter who never fails to light up a stage.
