Mission Not Accomplished: What Went Wrong in Iraq and Why

May 2 marks the one-year anniversary of George W. BushÂ’s dramatic aircraft carrier landing, when he declared that major combat operations in Iraq were done. Since then the situation has gone from bad to worse. Who are the new insurgents and how can we hope to defeat them? What are the prospects for a stable, democratic Iraq? How did the Bush administration miscalculate so horribly?

A forum featuring Larry J. Diamond, a Senior Advisor to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad since 2003, and Stephen D. Krasner, National Security Council member in 2002 under George W. Bush.
