SNRC / Accel Partners Symposium

Recent developments in data-center technologies, storage networking, host virtualization, and ubiquitous broadband network access are driving a new computing paradigm. Computing and communication resources can be flexibly managed, dynamically assembled on-demand and assigned to fine-grain multiplexed user-computation tasks.

This on-demand or utility computing infrastructure promises to revolutionize modern information services and networked computing. But several questions arise, such as:

- What is flexible or on-demand or utility computing?

- What do these concepts really mean in practice? How do they relate to other concepts, such as grid computing?

- What are the benefits? How are they realized?

What technical or business hurdles remain?

- Who are the leaders that are developing, providing or using these capabilities?

With a spotlight on technical challenges and business opportunities, presentations and discussions by industry leaders and academic experts will probe these issues.

Senior business and technology speakers from companies, as well as from Stanford University, will share their insight and experience in this rapidly evolving area. This year's speakers include:

- Andy Bechtolsheim, Co-Founder, Kealia, Granite Systems, Sun Microsystems; Former VP & GM, Gigabit Systems Group, Cisco; Chief Architect & SVP, Network Systems, Sun Micorsystems, Inc

- Andrew Borgstrom, CEO, T-Systems North America, A Deutsche-Telekom Company

- Don Canning, VP, Information Systems, Group Insurance, Prudential Financial

- Bill Coleman, Co-Founder & former CEO, BEA; Founder & CEO, Cassatt Corporation

- William Dally, Professor of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Stanford University

- Russ Daniels, VP & CTO, Strategy & Technology Office, Software Global Business Unit, HP

- Hector Garcia-Molina, Leonard Bosack & Sandra K. Lerner Professor in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering; Chairman, Department of Computer Science

- Diane Greene, President, VMware

- Craig Partridge, Chief Scientist, BBN

- Krish Ramakrishnan, CEO, Topspin Communications

- Jonathan Schwartz, President & COO, Sun Microsystems, Inc

- Rod Smith, IBM Fellow and VP, Emerging Technologies, Software Group, IBM

- Benny Souder, VP, Distributed Database Development, Oracle

This special symposium exploring Service-Oriented Flexible Computing is co-sponsored by SNRC and Accel Partners.
