A concert with the Heath Brothers puts you in the room with three master musicians who have, between them, performed with, been influenced by, and influenced many of the greatest players in modern jazz. In concert, the Heath Brothers share an intense yet relaxed musical intimacy that can only exist among family. The bottom line is great, hard bop jazz. Bassist Percy Heath was a member of the Modern Jazz Quartet, one of the most famed and enduring groups in jazz history. Percy is known for a fluid bass style that serves as a wonderful springboard for the solos of his bandmates, and for his own dynamic solos. Early in his career, saxophonist Jimmy Heath played with Dizzy Gillespie. He co-led a group with Art Farmer, and has fronted his own ensembles for many years. Jimmy is a vigorous soloist of great melodic warmth. Drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath made his recording debut on John Coltrane's first album as a leader. He's since played with titans like Dexer Gordon, Herbie Hancock and Yusef Lateef. The Heath Brothers finally formed a band together in 1975. As a family unit, they've produced nine wonderful albums and an untold amount of wonderful, empathetic jazz.
