Jim Cullum Jazz Band

An annual Stanford crowd pleaser, the Jim Cullum Jazz Band swings the past into focus, and has a great time doing it. Using the classic small group format stylings of the 20's and 30's, the group dives into a repetoire stretching from the early 19th century to the 1930's. Leader Jim Cullum plays the same model cornet Bix used, and each band member is an expert in period instruments and performance styles. But this is no museum ensemble. The group's distinctive, high-test style pours joyfully out of every number. In this band's hands, the music of an earlier era is alive and definitely kicking.
