Ira Ruskin vs. Steve Poizner: Candidates for State Assembly (d21)

The 80 state assembly members and 40 state senators, along with the governor, set the state's approximately $100 billion budget and make all the laws relevant to the state. Each state assembly member represents about 450,000 people, about 2/3 as many as a U.S. congressperson.

Our district is probably the most closely-watched race in the state. Ira Ruskin is a city council member and former mayor of Redwood City, where he served with distinction as a leader for education, the environment, and other issues.

Steve Poizner is a billionaire businessman, he has also bee a teacher in a local school. He spent $500,000 on his primary campaign - in which he was unopposed.

This closely contested race will impact not only our local politics, but also will have great importance on a statewide level. Now is a chance to become directly and personally informed about the candidates.
