Ross Brann (Ph.D. New York University, 1981) is Milton R. Konvitz Professor of Judeo-Islamic Studies and Chair of the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Cornell University. His books include The Compunctious Poet: Cultural Ambiguity and Hebrew Poetry in Muslim Spain (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1991), recipient of the 1992 National Jewish Book Award in Sephardic Studies, and Power in the Portrayal: Representations of Jews and Muslims in Eleventh- and Twelfth-Century Islamic Spain (Princeton University Press, 2002).
