Paths of Glory is a 1957 film, directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Kirk Douglas. It is set on the western front of World War I. In the movie, the French army orders its soldier to engage in an impossible attack. When the attack fails, the French bureaucrats try to save face by punishing three randomly selected soldiers as an example. Kirk Douglas plays the military lawyer assigned to defend them.
