Members of the Stanford community will have a unique opportunity on Wednesday 25 August at 12:00 noon in Durand Building, room 450, when a docent from the Asian Art Museum will present a slide lecture about the art of geisha, which coincides with the showing of GEISHA; BEYOND THE PAINTED SMILE presently on view at the Museum. The docent will document the lives of geisha, highly trained women dedicated to the performance of traditional dance, singing and instrumental music. The speaker will use slides of objects from the exhibition to explore how geisha, enduring icons of Japanese culture, have been perceived in the west. The event, bound to educate and enlighten, is free to the public. The exhibition itself will be continuing at the Asian in San Francisco until 26 September allowing those whose interest is sparked, to see for themselves.
