“Creativity, Mood, and Temperament”
Terence Ketter, M.D.
Associate Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Studies of highly creative people have shown a high level of clinical mood disorders and affective temperamental variations. Dr. Ketter will cover the previously underestimated relationships between mood, temperament, and creativity, and introduce research that suggests increased creativity in patients with specific types of mood disorders.
“New Treatments for Mood Disorders”
Alan F. Schatzberg, M.D.
Chair, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Although the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI's), such as fluoxetine and Prozac, have been a major step forward in treating depression, many patients do not tolerate or respond to such therapy. Major efforts to develop alternative therapies have resulted in several new treatments. Dr. Schatzberg will discuss the rationale for these agents as well as their potential use in clinical practice.
