Akihito Ochi: Commemorative Piano Concert

Akihito Ochi is a Japanese pianist with Down syndrome. He started playing piano at nine years old and later began to compose his own music. At age 14, he performed his compositions in public for the first time. His music is full of heart and is inspired by the beautiful scenery he has experienced traveling throughout Japan. Akihito has appeared on Japanese television including NHK, TV Aichi and others. In 1995, he was awarded the TOYP prize from the Japan Junior Chamber and an honorable mention from the Minister of Health and Welfare. In 2004 and 2006, he performed at the World Down Syndrome Congress in Singapore and Canada, respectively. This concert is in memory of his father, who passed away 30 years ago.
