The New Directions in Humanities Research lecture series highlights current trends in humanities computing and issues of concern to scholars working in the digital age. The fall series concludes with the topic of digital archives. David Rumsey, President of Cartography Associates, a digital publishing company based in San Francisco, and is a director of Luna Imaging, a provider of enterprise software for online image collections, will present: "Open Content: How Online Digital Libraries will Provide Access to Cultural Information in the 21st Century."
David Rumsey's collection of North and South American historical maps and related cartographic materials is one of the largest private map collections in the United States. In 1995, Rumsey began the task of making his collection public by building the online David Rumsey Historical Map Collection (www.davidrumsey.com). Rumsey has lectured widely regarding his online library work and has contributed to several publications on cartography and the advent of GIS. ESRI Press has just published his new book, "Cartographica Extraordinaire."
