Understanding the Arab World’s Hatred Of America and Israel: An Arab Woman Speaks Out

An Evening with Nonie Darwish, born in Cairo and raised in the Gaza Strip. Even before Israeli control of Gaza, Darwish was brought up in an atmosphere of intense hatred for America, Israel and the West. In 1956 her father, who was sent to Gaza under orders of Egyptian President Gamal Nasser to conduct terrorist operations against Israel, was killed, becoming a “Shahid” (Martyr) and hero in the Arab world. After completing her studies in Sociology and Anthropology at the American University of Cairo, Darwish worked as an editor and translator at the Middle East News Agency, eventually immigrating to the U.S. Living in America, she gradually came to realize the horrific consequences of the Jihadist indoctrination she and millions of other Arab children are subjected to. After the 9/11 tragedy, Darwish felt compelled to speak out. Her personal journey provides a new and hopeful perspective on what is perhaps the most important issue of our times — Western relations with the Islamic World.
