The War on Terrorism and Detainees: How does International Humanitarian Law Apply?

The 3rd annual International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Seminar will discuss an important issue in today's world culture-- The War on Terrorism and Detainees: How does International Humanitarian Law Apply?

The US government's policies in detaining suspected terrorists has been the subject of controversy during the past year, particularly in light of recent US Supreme Court rulings regarding Guantanamo Bay detainees and the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. The panelists will discuss the standards under the Geneva Convention regarding detentions and interrogations, as well as general international human rights standards.

Seminar Panel: Beth Van Schaak, Katie Zoglin, and Jim Armstead

Co-sponsored by the Palo Alto Area American Red Cross, World Affairs Council, Stanford Law School, and Santa Clara University School of Law.
