Stanford alum book signing event - "Eat Here" - the future of locally grown food

Earth Systems alumnus Brian Halweil will be signing copies of his new book, Eat Here: Reclaiming Homegrown Pleasures in a Global Supermarket. Growing local food has long been on Brian's mind: while at Stanford, he founded the Stanford Community Farm. Now a Senior Researcher at the Worldwatch Institute, Brian explains that this simple shift in eating habits not only delivers superior taste, but is better for people's health, the livelihoods of small farmers, and the global environment.

From case studies to market surveys, Eat Here looks at the many ways in which local food sources are growing in response to rising demand. “People everywhere are taking control of their food supply to protect themselves from mad cow disease, heavy pesticide use, agro-terrorism, and urban sprawl,” Brian writes. “They want to know who grows their food and where it comes from.” Come and meet Brian to learn more about the next frontier in the American diet.
