University Public Worship. Celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Christian Ecumenical service with Eucharist. All are welcome. The Rev. Scotty McLennan, Dean for Religious Life, will speak on "Courage in Spite of Fear." Martin Luther King preached that courage is not the absence of fear, it is the ability to act in spite of it. He knew that in "days of catastrophic change and calamitous uncertainty," we are all pursued by crippling fear "like a nagging hound of hell." Yet, King does not counsel seeking to eliminate fear from our lives. Instead, he advocated using fear as the "powerfully creative force" it is when linked with the virtue of courage. These are times to learn to live Dr. King's vision again -- especially in standing up for what we believe, no matter how unpopular.
