Awele Makeba's one-woman drama about the Montgomery Bus Boycott is told primarily through the voice of Claudette Colvin, the teenager who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus nine months before the arrest of Rosa Parks. The play celebrates the power of "ordinary" people who use the strength of their convictions to reject injustice and ignite a fuse for democracy. A discussion with Awele Makeba and Claudette Colvin will follow the performance. This event is sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Papers Project as part of its celebration of the King Holiday and legacy.
