"Listen to the Silence" is Stanford's annual Asian American community issues conference. It will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2005. Sponsored by Stanford Asian American Student Association and the Stanford Asian American Activism Committee, Listen to the Silence seeks to educate and empower Asian American students to take direct action to improve their communities and work towards social justice.
The event attracts hundreds of local high school students, college students from around the nation, and community activists throughout
California. The conference will consist of a series of workshops, aimed at educating participants on community issues, building organizing skills, and facilitating connections between activists and students.
This year's theme is "Forging a Better Tomorrow." The purpose of the theme is to emphasize Asian American individuals and organizations who are making an active effort to create positive social change. Workshops will bring to light important issues facing Asian Americans and also show how students can take active roles to improve their communities.
