Gay Rights? Civil Rights? Any Difference?

Featuring Keith Boykin, former advisor to President Clinton and current President of the Board of the National Black Justice coalition. This lecture and discussion will focus on how the efforts of the LGBT community to gain the rights of marriage, service in the military, and protection from employment discrimination has often drawn upon the legacy of the civil rights movement as a model of challenging oppression, and at times has been accused of equating itself with the Civil Rights Movement. Mr. Boykin will seek to facilitate a conversation addressing the delicate balance of recognizing the relationship between these two movements, while also acknowledging their vast differences.
